Die Wellen am 7. Tag des 2025 Playa Surf CBbC Hotel Tenerife El Médano Windsurf Grand Slam waren kein Problem, da eine neue Dünung einsetzte und die bisher besten Wellen des Events brachte. Trotz der Windvorhersage war der Wind zu Beginn des Tages jedoch recht schwach, und erst um 16:00 Uhr Ortszeit konnten die Single Eliminations fortgesetzt werden. Die Finals wurden schließlich mit den besten zwei Wellen und einem Sprung ausgetragen, während die Weltbesten 16 Minuten Zeit hatten, um ihr volles Potenzial in überkopfhohen Wellen zu zeigen.

Wave

Women’s

Last year Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) missed out on the podium here, but this year she is now guaranteed to finish at least second after claiming a hard fought victory in the Single Elimination to lead the event with three days to go. The Aruban produced the highest scoring heat of the single in the final - 14.93 points - to deservedly claim the top spot on the podium. Offringa demonstrated powerful rail-to-rail wave riding throughout to see off the rest of the competition.

Alexia Kiefer Quintana (Duotone Windsurfing) was Offringa’s biggest competition in the final with the 20-year-old leading Heat 23 for much of the opening half of the showpiece. The young Spaniard produced one of the turns of the day to open her account, but unfortunately couldn’t back it up, but still earned 5.25 points for one turn. Kiefer Quintana was still lacking a jump score late into the final and after two failed backloop attempts had to settle for a 2.75 point forward, which wasn’t enough to trouble Offringa, but if she had’ve managed to stick one of those backloops it may well have been a different story. Kiefer Quintana is also guaranteed to extend her podium streak - now seven and counting - as she keeps herself firmly in the world title race conversation.

Sol Degrieck (Severne / Severne Sails) only finished ninth here in 2024, but today she booked her place in the final and is now guaranteed a top four finish after completing the podium. The 15-year-old took an aggressive approach to her wave riding, but sometimes possibly just tried to push a little too hard as she looked to land an aerial, but even so she’ll be delighted to have majorly bettered her previous result here.

Today will live long in the memory of Line Bang Wittrup (Goya Windsurfing) after the Dane qualified for her first Winners’ Final on the World Tour. In the opening quarterfinal in particular the 22-year-old delivered some of the biggest hits of the day, while she narrowly edged out Justyna Sniady (Flikka / North Sails) and Maria Morales (Goya Windsurfing) in the semifinals to book her spot in the top four for the first time.

Pauline Katz (Severne / Severne Sails) earned the highest scoring wave of the day in Heat 11 - 7 points - for a sick, late frontside hit, before tagging the end section as she won the opening quarterfinal. Unfortunately, however, Katz couldn’t quite connect with a wave in quite the same manner in the semifinal and just missed out a place in the final by less than a point. The Swiss is currently tied in joint fifth place with Justyna Sniady, who also impressed in the quarters.

Men’s

You could tell Marc Paré meant business today as even in the light winds before the competition started the Spaniard was out tweaking his gear to make sure he was leaving no stone unturned. That paid off handsomely with Paré setting the two highest scoring heats of the contest - 22.33 in the semis and 20.39 points in the final - to deservedly earn the top spot on the podium as he looks to defend his event title from 2024, while perhaps more importantly, reduce the deficit to World Tour leader Marcilio Browne (Goya Windsurfing / MFC). In the final, Paré landed easily the biggest jump of the day to earn 8.27 points for a massive double forward, while a combination of full rail turns and frontside 360s was more than enough to earn him the current event lead.

Meanwhile, Victor Fernandez (Duotone Windsurfing) is guaranteed to keep his incredible record going here in Tenerife with the 41-year-old finishing on the podium here at every event since 2012, which is quite remarkable. The former three-time event champion used all of his local knowledge to maximise the potential of each wave, while you could tell how much he wanted to earn a top three finish after sailing away from a double forward in the final to secure second place - for now at least.

Marino Gil (JP / NeilPryde / MFC) dug deep in the semifinals to progress into the final today as he produced a buzzer beater to deny Antoine Martin (Quatro / Goya Windsurfing / MFC) a spot in the top four by just 0.34 of a point. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old struck late again in the final to pip Browne to the last place on the podium after stomping an excellent double forward.

Current World Tour leader, Browne, successfully negotiated his way into the final, but for once things didn’t really go his way. The Brazilian had several runs desperately hunting for proper ramp for a double forward, but on this occasion he couldn’t find a suitable ramp, so has to settle for fourth in the Single Elimination.

The forecast for Friday now looks significantly windier than before with winds of up to 30 knots currently predicted, while some locals think it could be windier than that still, so we’ll have to wait and see which discipline/category will get the nod. All fleets will have a skippers’ meeting at 09:30am (GMT+1) with the action commencing from 10am onwards for Waves and 10:30am for Slalom X.
