Am ersten Tag des 2022 Gran Canaria PWA Windsurfing World Cups meldeten sich zwischen 10 und 11 Uhr insgesamt 104 Teilnehmer für den ersten Wettbewerb in Pozo Izquierdo seit drei Jahren an, und zwar in den Gruppen der Männer, Frauen, Jugend und Junioren. Leider weigerte sich der Wind, am Eröffnungstag mitzuspielen, und obwohl es ein paar Windstöße gab, die ein paar Surfer aufs Wasser lockten, blieben die Bedingungen nie konstant genug, um den Wettkampf zu bestreiten, da der Wind ständig seine Richtung und Stärke wechselte.
